This is a two-day odds match, with the Goldfields team having 15 players. M.C.C. chose to bat first on a fine batting pitch in good weather and scored at a good pace throughout their innings. Herbert Sutcliffe and Andy Sandham began with an opening partnership of 67, but the most memorable innings was played by Frank Woolley, who stroked a powerful 67 in less than 50 minutes, including 2 sixes and 10 fours. All the main M.C.C. batsmen got some good practice, except for Jack Bryan who was caught without scoring. Patsy Hendren had his first innings of the tour and scored a rather quiet 40.
