Day 2
Manchester: England v South Africa (Fourth Test Match)
No Play — Rain
SOUTH AFRICA 116/4 (Taylor 18*, Catterall 6*). ENGLAND to bat.
Rain fell throughout Sunday and for most of today, leaving much of the pitch and outfield under water. Few of the players even bothered to turn up at the ground, and the only wonder was that it took until two o’clock for play to be officially abandoned for the day. So wet is the ground that the chances of any play tomorrow look bleak, and certainly an outright result appears to be out of the question.
Bournemouth: Hampshire v Warwickshire
No Play — Rain
HAMPSHIRE 266. WARWICKSHIRE 10/1 (Bates 6*).
There was rain throughout the night, which continued today, and the day’s play was abandoned at 12 noon with pools of water all over the ground.
Leicester: Leicestershire v Glamorgan
No Play — Rain
More rain during the night and morning has waterlogged the Aylestone Road ground at Leicester, and play was again abandoned for the day by one o’clock today.
Northampton: Northamptonshire v Essex
No Play — Rain
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE 213. ESSEX 8/0 (J R Freeman 3*, H M Morris 5*).
After rain fell almost continuously since yesterday evening, this match was abandoned for the day soon after two o’clock.
The Oval: Surrey v Kent
No Play — Rain
KENT 182/2 (Seymour 80*, Knott 8*). SURREY to bat.
Rain began to fall again on Sunday night and continued, so that at the time for the scheduled start the pitch was practically under water.
Stourbridge: Worcestershire v Lancashire
No Play — Rain
LANCASHIRE 54/0 (J W H Makepeace 20*, C Hallows 34*). WORCESTERSHIRE to bat.
Rain started yesterday and continued throughout today, and the pitch is so saturated that the umpires called off play for the day at noon. The pitch and outfield are so sodden that play is unlikely tomorrow either.
Leeds: Yorkshire v Gloucestershire
No Play — Rain
YORKSHIRE 137/2 (E Oldroyd 58*, A Mitchell 7*). GLOUCESTERSHIRE to bat.
Rain was falling steadily at Headingley when the match was due to start, and the only change was that it became heavier as the day went on, with large pools of water all over the ground.
