Day 2
Kalgoorlie: Goldfields Association v M.C.C. (two-day match, not first-class)
Freeman Wickets Again
M.C.C. 346/9 dec and 111/3 dec (J L Bryan 40, F E Woolley 30, R Kilner 20*). GOLDFIELDS ASSOCIATION 42 (A E R Gilligan 2/9, M W Tate 2/8, A P Freeman 5/18, R Kilner 3/1) and 52/7 (R K Tyldesley 2/9, A P Freeman 2/17). Match drawn.
M.C.C. didn’t try too hard to win this match, and they didn’t. The Goldfields team innings followed a predicable course, Arthur Gilligan and Maurice Tate making the early breakthrough before the spinners cleaned up, with Tich Freeman taking five wickets in the middle order and Roy Kilner polishing off the tail. M.C.C. were more concerned in giving their batsmen some more practice, especially Jack Bryan, who scored 40 this time, while Frank Woolley had a brief cameo. They didn’t leave themselves enough time to bowl out their opponents again.
